The repression in El Salvador is blind and obeys a madness of the power possessed by the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele. The day he left El Salvador for Canada, he gave an interview to El Diario de Hoy, where he revealed the facts he was able to verify during his visit and expressed the fear he felt in the face of abuses and irregularities committed by the bureaucracy.

In fact, he said he entered the airport fearing he would be wrongfully captured.

When asked if this feeling was the same among other Salvadorans abroad, he said yes, because “we have seen the irregularities committed by the police and the army, who should not be patrolling the streets , the army is for other types of activities”.

When asked if he had identified any abuse of authority, he replied: “I once saw (a video) of a photographer taking pictures of a person who had appeared dead in a place, the policeman took the camera from him and hit him with a big slap.”

He then pointed out that this is done to instill a politics of fear in the population. To slap a journalist is to scare 1,000. It shouldn’t be done, he said.

“After having murdered these two men who came in a truck from an electoral activity (FMLN) and a man who was the PPI of the Minister of Health starts shooting and kills two of them. So he is killed to scare 10,000 people; (the leaders of) Santa Marta are put in prison so that the other communities do not say anything, the trade unionists are put in prison to scare everyone”

He then mentioned the arrests of Ernesto Muyshondt as well as the thousands of arrests under the emergency regime and said, “We want to remind Bukele that he is not here in the Middle East.”

“No one here should have absolute power, the absolutes that go to the Middle East. We do not want a foreigner to take advantage of their status as a foreigner to come and dominate and impose inappropriate behavior in the democracy of our country, but rather return to where they came from, we do not want these people here ” , concluded the surgeon.
