Mexico City, Nov. 25 (EFE).- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said this Friday that he is “ready” to travel to Lima to celebrate the presidential summit of the Pacific Alliance that he suspended in Mexico due to the refusal of Peruvian Congress to allow the presence of President Pedro Castillo.

López Obrador explained in his daily press conference that he had consulted on the matter with the presidents of Chile, Gabriel Boric, and Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, which is seeking to join the trade bloc of Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru.

“A very good meeting yesterday with him, with President Guillermo Lasso, and we agreed that we will wait for what is resolved, what President Castillo himself proposes, what President Boric proposes, today we will speak with President (Gustavo) Petro (of Colombia) on the subject as well, and I would be ready to go to Lima to pass the baton,” he said.

The summit in Mexico, temporary president of the Pacific Alliance, had raised expectations to be the first time that the four presidents who make up the bloc are from the left.

López Obrador expressed his disagreement with the Peruvian Congress for preventing the presence of Castillo, whom he previously called to express his “support” and “solidarity”.

Despite the summit suspension, López Obrador met Boric on Wednesday, with Lasso on Thursday and the meeting with Petro is scheduled for this Friday.

Although Ecuador is not a member of the bloc, the president of Mexico has expressed his intention to join, but the trade agreement between the two countries has not yet been finalized.

The Pacific Alliance, formally established ten years ago and which aims to strengthen trade integration, prides itself on being “the world’s eighth economic power and eighth exporting power”, representing 41% of the gross domestic product (GDP ) from Latin America and attracts 38%. foreign direct investments.

Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard informed on Thursday of the possible joining of the bloc by Costa Rica, Ecuador, Canada, South Korea, Singapore and Honduras.
