Spanish swimming added two new records for Spain on the fourth day of competition at the Short Course World Championships taking place in Melbourne (Australia) in which the 4x200m freestyle relay and Carles Coll finished sixth and eighth of their respective finals.
The relay continues to bring happiness and after the new national records of the 4×100 and the 4×50 free, it is the turn of the 4×200 with Sergio de Celis, Mario Mollà, Luis Domínguez and Hugo González. The four achieved the first goal of entering the afternoon final, and they did so by breaking Spain’s record by almost seven seconds to leave it in 6:56.79 and seventh position.
In the medal fight, where the United States won gold with a world record (6:44.12), the four were able to improve their performance even further and set a new national best time of 6:53, 13 to finish sixth. In addition, Domínguez clocked a superb 1:43.02 sprint to also set a new individual national record.
On the other hand, Carles Coll swam his final of the 100 meters styles this Friday where he finished eighth and without being able to beat the Spanish record which he had achieved in the semi-final the day before with 51.97, of which he was a Near. (52.36).
In addition, the day set two other new world records, that of France in the mixed 4x50m freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.33, and that of Canada’s Maggie MacNeil in the 50m backstroke with 25.25. In the men’s event of this distance, the anecdote of the day was seen since the final, initially won by the Australian Isaac Cooper, had to be repeated later when a technical error by a judge was noticed and that the victory in the new race went to the American Ryan Murphy.
