The IDR of Albacete hosts the first workshop of the GoNexus project

The Regional Development Institute (IDR) of the UCLM Campus in Albacete yesterday hosted the first workshop and debate of the international project GoNexuswith users, researchers, technicians, administrations and social groups of La Mancha Oriental.

GoNexus is a program that develops the Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Valencia funded by the EU and which will develop similar meetings in the European (Tajo, Segura, Danube, Lake Cuomo) and African (Senegal and Zambezi) basins.

Its starting point is simple: water management is not, and cannot be, something that works in isolation, but is part of a whole with policies for energy management, food production and environmental protection.

Sergio Segura, a researcher at IIAMA, explained that “in these workshops, we want to bring together and know the points of view of all the actors in a given area, in this case the Eastern Channel area, in the basin of Jucar”.

Among the participants were the UCLM, the IDR itself, the Central Irrigation Commissionenvironmentalists from ACEMthe community council, the CHJfarmers and even the media.

The information obtained is integrated into the “most advanced” climate change forecasting models with the collaboration of institutions and universities in Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Senegal or the Canada.
