The Economy Gran Canaria begins its 31st season in the top flight

The Economy Gran Canaria enters its 31st season in the highest category of wheelchair basketball. With the Ciudad Deportiva de Gran Canaria as the backdrop, the squad strengthened for another year with international signings, including players from Canada, Poland and Germany.

Official start of the season for El Econy Gran Canaria, which celebrates its 31st consecutive season of elite wheelchair basketball. An achievement that highlights his heritage and his commitment to high competition sport. “No wheelchair basketball club has achieved these 31 consecutive years,” said club president Ismael Nahim. And he adds: “Even in the Canary Islands, it is difficult to find veteran clubs that have reached this milestone”.

This year, the team has new additions looking to add depth and talent to the already experienced roster. Among the most outstanding recruits of this new season are the Polish Kristov Kozaryna, the Canadian Garrett Ostepchuk, the German Bastian Kolb and the also Canadian Kady Dandeneau.

The team started training this Monday, September 4, at the Ciudad Deportiva de Gran Canaria, and almost the entire group has already joined it. In the absence of Bastian Kolb, who will join the sessions next week, and Salazar, who will join shortly.

“This year, we have a much more balanced, more competitive group”, considers Nahim, while remaining cautious: “It is true that we have strengthened ourselves, but there are many teams which have strengthened themselves, so the expectations are good, but being aware of the difficulty.”

Econy Gran Canaria are aiming for their first league game, which will take place on October 8 in Badajoz. With a strengthened squad and 31 years of experience in the top flight, the team is more than ready to meet the challenges that will come in this exciting new season.
