“I feel encouraged by the renewed commitment of the international community,” said Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarcic, who appreciated the role of Canada, the United Nations and organizations supporting Venezuelan refugees.

With this initiative, the EU has sought to increase the visibility of the humanitarian situation in Venezuela, considered one of the most funded crises in the world, with the aim of maintaining the attention of the international community.

During the event, the EU pledged €75 million to address the refugee crisis in Venezuela. These items will be used for food aid, health, shelter, protection, education and legal assistance to Venezuelan refugees both in the country and in host countries.

Canada, as co-host, announced a commitment of C$58.55 million to meet humanitarian needs, as well as to support the long-term integration of refugees and migrants into host communities, while the United States pledged more than $140 million in additional humanitarian assistance, plus $31 million in development assistance to meet the needs of Venezuelan refugees and migrants.
