Canada.- The Formula 1 Grand Prix of Canada, which will be held on Sunday June 18, is in doubt due to the multiple fires spreading in this country.

Currently, about 400 fires are active, nearly half of which are believed to be under control, according to reports from the Canadian Interagency Wildfire Center; the country of the maple leaf suffers one of the worst waves of fires in its history.

Due to unforeseen events, the Canadian government issued air quality alerts due to the smoke from the fires, which even reached cities in the northern United States.

Although the Canadian GP is more than a week away, the celebration of the event could be compromised if the presence of smoke continues to affect the city of Montreal.

More than 26,000 Canadians had to be evacuated from their homes and the country placed a respiratory alert due to the fumes from the fire.

It wouldn’t be the first time in the 2023 season that a GP has been suspended, it happened with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Italy, due to flooding caused by a nearby river overflowing of the circuit.

The Canadian Grand Prix is the ninth round of the 2023 F1 championship, it will take place from June 16 to 18 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, in the city of Montreal.
