Telefónica Spain announced this Wednesday a deep restructuring of its second organizational stage, still supervised by its president Emilio Gayo, with the aim of strengthening itself in half a dozen areas of activity, all considered strategic. With changes in management and responsibilities, the subsidiary intends to adapt its model to markets with the greatest growth potential.
The first major novelty in the organization of Telefónica Spain is the Verticals activity, under the responsibility of José Manuel Casas, until now director of the Eastern Territory, and also general manager of Movistar Prosegur Alarmas (MPA), eHealth , Energy and Financial Services, as well as future companies that the subsidiary could integrate in the coming months. Casas will combine the territorial management of the East zone with the aforementioned vertical activities. The wholesale division is also new. which remains in the hands of Marisa de Urquía, who will manage marketing and engineering for customers and operations.
In addition to the two aforementioned areas, four other already existing companies are also consolidated, but with additional skills. Thus, the residential area (B2C), which will be headed by Óscar Candiles, until now Director of Strategy and Wholesale, will manage sales, service, commercial offers or marketing. Moreover, Candiles will be the new boss of O2, once consolidated as an alternative telephone operator.

The Business Customers and Public Administration (B2B) area will continue to be led by Adrián García Nevado, as well as the Audiovisual area, which is the activity of Cristina Burzako, in her capacity as CEO of Movistar Plus+. The Operations, Networks and IT (ORTI) division will continue under the direction of Joaquín Mata, a director who will set the objectives of automation, the use of technology as a lever for transformation and the efficiency of all the processes and businesses of the company, in Other aspects. In addition to the previous negotiations, there is the creation of a transverse Customer Experience and Quality department, commissioned by Pedro Serrahima, as well as the appointment of Luis Rivera as CEO of the rural fiber subsidiary (Fiberco).
The six areas, whose heads will report to Sergio Oslé, CEO of Telefónica Spain, hope to strengthen the differentiation of operations and increase “quality, trust and satisfaction” for the customer. As Telefónica España explained in a press release, the subsidiary “is advancing in its transformation and diversification and adapting its organizational model with the aim of promoting and seizing growth opportunities”. According to Emilio Gayo, “this new structure is designed to, among other things, increase agility, improve the efficiency of operations and focus even more on the customer, both residential and professional”.
Alongside the six business departments, the management committee will continue to be made up of the support divisions: general secretariat and regulation; Strategy, Transformation and M&A; Finance and Management Control; Security; The human and the communication. This new structure includes the appointment of Luis Rivera as CEO of fiberco, who, together with Sergio Oslé and the support areas, will report, as currently, to the President of Telefónica Spain, Emilio Gayo.
