Tropical Storm ‘Fiona’ made landfall this Saturday morning in eastern Canada and left half a million homes without power.
The Canadian Hurricane Center said the storm made landfall in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, knocking down trees and power lines. It also caused significant damage to homes, vehicles and roadblocks, according to Canadian television channel Global News.
The storm continues its track and is expected to reach the province of Quebec and the coast of the southeastern part of the Labrador Peninsula this afternoon.
“There are strong winds and precipitation over Prince Edward Island in Nova Scotia, southern and eastern New Brunswick, western Newfoundland and eastern of Quebec,” the Canadian Hurricane Center said.
During this time, the authorities recommend that citizens do not leave their homes. “Starting tonight and possibly Sunday, you should stay indoors unless absolutely necessary,” Charlottetown City Council said. “Don’t use the roads and be prepared for further power cuts,” he added.
