Yesterday, the Spanish delegation closed the Canoe-Kayak Sprint World Championship in Halifax (Canada) with the gold medals of Carlos Arévalo, who won the K1 200 final, and the C4 500 group, made up of Juan Moreno, Pablo Graña, Manuel Fontan and Adrian Sieiro; and silver for María Corbera in C1 200m. These successes put the nationals at the top of the medal table.
Arévalo opened the last day of the competition by proclaiming himself the undisputed world champion of a regatta, dominating from the start and beating the pulse of the one who dominated the race in the last competitions, Kolos Csizmadia, who finished third.
The Galician paddler had accepted the final test by winning his series, but with the third time. However, he played in an impressive final, first all the way which he finished with a time of 36.43.
“It was a very tough regatta with a headwind, but I felt very good and I’m very happy. The sensations were very good. Winning gold in K4 and now in K1 is the best. I can’t aspire to more,” said the Spaniard.
In the previous test, María Corbera signed the fourth medal of the national delegation, with which she improves the trophies obtained in the last world event held in Copenhagen.
After finishing fourth in the Race World Cup, Corbera had a great final in Halifax, in an event that had started well, with the dominance of Lin Wenjun, who gave way to the power of Nevin Harrison (49.87), champion in 2019 , and ended up losing in the fight for silver with the Spaniards (50.54) by just one hundredth.
Finally, the C4 500 composed of Juan Moreno, Pablo Graña, Manuel Fontán and Adrián Sieiro closed the party for the national team with another gold metal which they won thanks to a best time of 1: 39.42, beating Poland and Ukraine.
