Some commenters banned for calling skater ‘that Canadian female dog’

The International Skating Union (ISU) banned from any coverage of its competitions two commentators who, unaware they had an open mic, made reference to the figure skater meagan duhamel What “that Canadian female dog.”

“There is no place for harassing and abusive language, comments and behavior, whether in sport or in our society. The ISU took immediate action with its service provider to suspend the two commentators effective immediately and neither will cover any future figure skating events for the ISU,” the organization said in a statement.

The federation itself reported that after the short program for the pairs of the world championships taking place in Montpellier (France), “an open mic picked up a comment disrespectful on the part of the two commentators who work in the international signal”.

“The ISU is outraged by the language used by the two commentators, which in no way reflects their views. The ISU strongly condemns any statement of a discriminatory or offensive nature,” he added.

The agency asked for its “sincere apologies to Ms. Duhamel for the inappropriate and unacceptable behavior of the two commentators”.

Duhamel, already retired, does not participate in these championships. He was double world champion in pairs, in 2015 and 2016, and in 2018 Olympic team champion.
