Two shootings by the same man outside Toronto, Canada, left two dead and three injured on Monday afternoon.

One of those who lost their lives was a Toronto police officer, while the other was the shooter himself, killed as Canadian police sought to apprehend him.

The 48-year-old police officer was shot and killed at close range and died in the city of Mississauga, outside Toronto, where he was apparently resting from training and was ambushed by the assailant.

The suspect, who police say was a black man and was driving a large vehicle, was involved in another incident in the nearby town of Milton, where he was also the subject of a shooting.

The shooter was eventually arrested and pronounced dead in the city of Hamilton, in an incident that is being investigated by the Ontario Police Oversight Agency, the network said. CTV.

“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of Toronto Police Service Constable Andrew Hong,” Toronto Police Chief James Ramer said at a press conference alongside of its counterparts in Peel and Halton regions in Mississauga.

Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said the officer was in Mississauga for a training exercise and was attacked while on a break.

“In the same incident, a second innocent victim suffered gunshot wounds and is being treated in a hospital,” he said.

Following the incident, police confirmed they were looking for a suspect described as a thin, dark-haired black man, armed and dangerous, wearing dark clothing and a yellow construction vest.

Shortly after the first shooting, Halton police said they were investigating a similar incident at an auto body repair shop in Milton, about 20 miles west of Mississauga.

Three people were injured in this incident. Police said one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were taken to a regional hospital for treatment.
