Senafront locates the Clan del Golfo mining camp in Darién

Members of the Clan del Golfo are responsible for the environmental pollution of the region, the product of illegal gold mining.

The National Border Service (Senafront) located a Clan del Golfo mining camp at the sources of the Tuira and Mangle rivers, in Darién, four kilometers from the border with Colombia.

During inspection of the illegal camp, it was found that there was environmental destruction over two hectares and infrastructure built by the gang members was also located.

Senafront agents also located facilities to house gang members as well as different types of firearms.

Intelligence agents from the Panamanian security forces and the environmental prosecutor’s office are present on site. These officials destroy the material found and also participate in the search efforts of members of the Gulf Cln.

According to Senafront, four Colombian citizens of Colombian nationality were arrested and it was determined that this mining camp was intended for the extraction of gold.

Members of the Clan del Golfo are responsible for the environmental pollution of the region, a product of the illegal extraction of Panamanian gold, which brings them an average of one million dollars per month.
