Mexico, Canada and Brazil have already fought a tough battle on the podium of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, with no option for the first place reserved for the United States for 32 years. Each with their weapons: behind the United States, which had 41 gold medals on the third day of the competitions, further on, Mexico burst into second place with 16 gold medals, including six for taekwondo.
A rung lower, Canada has won 12 gold medals focused on swimming (4), led by its star Maggie Mac Nail who won her third gold medal this Monday, in a discipline in which her neighbor the States -United reigns supreme.
Winner of an Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020, the Canadian won the 100-meter freestyle on Monday with a time of 53.64 seconds, breaking her second Pan-American record.
The three North American countries monopolize the podium so far, but Brazil is fighting with 7 gold medals, leading the South American contingent. Cuba, the second historic Pan-American power, is currently content with sixth place (3 gold medals), behind Colombia, which has 4 gold medals.
It should be noted that in this edition a total of 2,986 medals will be distributed, including 947 gold, 947 silver and 1,092 bronze. Please note, the Parapan American medals have the same construction, but they differ in that the center and the quote have a blue tone and the legend “Santiago 2023” is written in Braille.
