In boccia, Rebeca Duarte has already entered the final, which will compete for gold this Wednesday morning. Mario Sayes also aims for the bronze medal
Salvadoran Rebeca Duarte won El Salvador’s second medal at the Parapan American Games, after that of Herbert Aceituno in parapowerlifting on Saturday.
Duarte, one of the main athletes in the boccia discipline, has already participated in the women’s final of the BC2 division, so she has at least a second silver medal.
She will compete for gold against Aztec Karina Martínez this Wednesday, around 9:10 a.m., at the Lo Espejo Community Sports Center.
Duarte began her participation in Santiago 2023 on Sunday, with a clear 7-2 victory against a tough rival, American Michele Lynch, in Pool A.
The same day, in the men’s BC2, the national Mario Sayes lost 16-0 against Maciel De Sousa.
Then, yesterday, Duarte beat Ecuador’s Joselyn León 7-2 to secure her qualification for the semi-finals.
There she had to face the Canadian Kristyn Collins, whom she beat by another clear score, 5-0, to win Bochia’s first medal in Santiago 2023 and the second at the Pan American Games. All that remains is to define the color, and today it will be in the final.
For his part, Sayes then took revenge and beat Argentina’s Jonathan Aquino 8-0 to stay alive in the competition. Yesterday, he defeated Brazilian Iuri Saraiva by a close score of 5-4, thus reaching the semi-finals.
In this case, he fell against the Canadian Danik Allard, so he will compete for the bronze medal this Wednesday against the Argentinian Luis Cristaldo, at 6:30 a.m.
