Russia on Monday banned 99 more Canadians from entering its territory in response to the latest round of sanctions approved by the Canadian government over Russia's war in Ukraine, that country's foreign ministry reported. .
The countermeasure is imposed on Canadian politicians, journalists and businessmen whom Russia accuses of “promoting and implementing Ottawa's Russophobic policy.”

The official memo emphasizes that Russia separates the Canadian people from the ruling elites, which is why it imposes restrictions selectively, unlike Canada, which applies them “without discrimination” to Russian leaders, scientists, artists and athletes, as well as 'to ordinary citizens.
“Our list carefully includes figures who sow hostility and help the criminal regime of (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky,” the note added.
In total, Russia has already banned entry into its territory to more than 1,600 citizens of Canada, a country which has actively supported kyiv since the start of the conflict in February 2022.
