Felix Auger-Aliassim wins in Florence and returns to the ‘Top 10’
MADRID, 16 (EUROPE PRESS)
Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev was crowned champion of the first edition of the ATP tournament in Gijón by beating the American Sebastian Korda this Sunday in the final (6-2, 6-3), thus winning the 12th title on his record, the fourth in the season.
The Gijón seed added the Asturian event to the titles this year at the ATP 250 in Belgrade, Marseille and the ATP 500 in Dubai. The Russian took an even game, with few break options for both but taking advantage of the ones he had.
Thus, Rublev marked the first set with a “break” in the fourth game and another to fix it in the rest. In the second set, Korda had the chance to break before, but after not taking advantage of it, Rublev forced him with his forehand, in a 4-2 that he did not neglect until he wins.
The conquest of Gijón boosts the Russian in his bid to qualify for the third consecutive season at the ATP Finals. In addition, Sunday he was also used to crown the champion at the ATP tournament in Florence (Italy), where the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassim won 6-4, 6-4 against the American JJ Wolf.
Félix added his second title in 2022, after the one obtained in Rotterdam, to start changing the sequence in the final (2-9). Wolf was looking for his first title in his first final, but the Canadian also resumed his ticket for the world “Top 10”.
Meanwhile, at the WTA event in Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Russia’s Anna Blinkova created her record and became the fifth player to win a tournament in 2022 since the previous one, winning against Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 6 -2, 3-6, 6-2.
