The professor-researcher of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences Alejandro Ceballos Márquez was the winner of the “Call for postdoctoral stays in scientific diplomacy abroad for Colombian doctors 2022”, carried out by the Ministry of Science, Technology and of Innovation in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs External Affairs.
The objective of the call was to manage and develop international postdoctoral stays in scientific, technological and innovation activities to articulate the actors of the national CTeI system and promote scientific diplomacy between Colombia and priority countries for the creation of science diplomacy nodes. .
The project presented by Professor Ceballos Márquez was: “Diplomacy for Colombia-Canada collaboration to stimulate international cooperation networks in CT+I for the rational use of antibiotics in the dairy chain and reduce risks to public health”.
“The project aims to create a consortium between Canadian universities and institutions in the coffee region, in particular the University of Caldas, to strengthen bilateral relations and develop activities focused on improving public policies in Colombia, in particular in terms of the use of antibiotics for the treatment of infectious diseases,” added Professor Alejandro Ceballos Márquez.
According to the teacher, it is a question of working mainly on the antimicrobial resistance aspect and that linked to the rational use of antibiotics, in particular in dairy production.
Ceballos explains that what we want is to take advantage of the experience that Canadian universities have in working with producers and consumers on the rational use of antibiotics, reducing the risks associated with the generation of resistance. microbial.
The project will be developed with Prince Edward University, Université de Montréal, University of Guelph and University of Calgary.
