Porsche presents the 963: its 2023 LMDh

The German brand will compete in Daytona and Le Mans next year

The new 963 will make its debut at the 2022 8 Hours of Bahrain

Porsche presented its new LMDh, with which in the 2023 season they will compete in IMSA and WEC. In other words, with the new 963 they will be able to compete in races like Daytona, but also Le Mans. The 963 will make its out-of-competition debut in 2022 with the 8 Hours of Bahrain.

Porsche will join other brands like Audi, Honda, BMW and Cadillac as the first brands of LMDh regulations, which is the technical unification of IMSA and WEC. Porsche’s idea is to compete in 2024 with four cars.

The drivers selected for the four 963s split between IMSA and WEC will be Kévin Estre, Michael Christensen, Laurens Vanthoor, André Lotterer, Matt Campbell, Mathieu Jaminet, Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr.

The chassis of the 963 comes from the Canadian company Multimatic and will be equipped with a 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The Porsche 963 is based on the 918 Spyder, mixed with the LMP2 RS Spyder, with which the Penske team, allied with Porsche in this LMDh project, triumphed in the American Le Mans Series.

Despite the fact that the Porsche project is for the 2023 season, the 963 will make its debut at the 8 Hours of Bahrain this 2022 season, even though the German firm called it an “unsporting” debut.
