Peru Climbs 41 Places in United Nations Open Data World Index | information

The recent United Nations Digital Government Development Index positioned Peru as one of eleven leading countries in the Government Open Data Index.

The study assessed the availability of open data both in general and in six key sectors closely related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to education, employment, environment, health, justice and social protection.

In this sense, the UN survey pointed out that there are eleven countries that are at number 1 in this ranking, made up of six Europeans (Estonia, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and Switzerland), two Asian (Singapore and Saudi Arabia), two oceanic (Australia and New Zealand) and one American (Peru). Peru is not only ranked as the best in Latin America and the Caribbean, but also on the continent, ahead of the United States and Canada.

Likewise, Peru ranks 59th out of 193 economies assessed, climbing 12 positions and ranking in the overall Very High Performance score, overtaking countries like Mexico and Colombia. According to the report, this leap was driven by digital innovation and the development of digital services.

Regarding the digital citizen participation index, Peru is ranked 23rd out of 193 economies assessed, climbing 32 positions with the second highest growth in the world and ranking second in Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the digital economy side, Peru managed to invoice more than $9,300 million in e-commerce in 2021, according to the Peruvian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Capece) and transactions for more than 100 million soles were generated in digital wallets in procurement markets across the country, according to reports from the Association of Banks of Peru (Asbanc).
