Sixteen B-Boys and 16 B-Girls are confirmed to show off their dance moves and performances at Chimkowe Gym.
Breaking will make its debut as a sport at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. November 3 and 4 are the dates for the debut of this sport in Santiago 2023, where the dancers, better known as B-Boys and B-Girls, will compete on the track with the aim of obtaining a place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Men’s and women’s gold medalists will benefit from direct access to this biggest sporting event. A total of 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls confirmed their dance moves and performances at Chimkowe Gym, in Peñalolén.
Originating in the United States, break is a style of dance that stands out mainly among younger people for its acrobatic movements, footwork and skill. It is part of the International Dance Sports Federation (WDSF), founded in 1957.
The techniques mainly consist of three: top rock, foot movements used to challenge and gain space, down rock, floor figures and acrobatics, and freezes, known for temporarily freezing the dancer in a pose specific. Nine judges score the athletes according to six criteria: creativity, personality, technique, variety, performance and musicality.

An exceptional dancer who will be present in this premiere will be Philim Kim (pictured), from Canada. The athlete finished second at the 2021 Breaking Paris World Championship and was crowned at the 2023 Breaking Chile Continental Championship..
Of Canadian origin, Onton See is another of the great competitors to beat during these Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. He won the Red Bull BC One in Canada. B-Girl Tiffany Nora, also from Canada, is another great reference when it comes to breaking. At the continental competition in Chile, she placed fourth in the standings.
Matías Ignacio Martínez, better known as “Matita” in the world of station wagons, will be one of the Chilean representatives in this premiere. The dancer placed 14th in the Breaking Paris 2021 world championship, and ninth in the continental edition which he competed at home last May.
