CANADA’S DAZZLING PERFORMANCE IN THE MEN’S 1,500M AND VENEZUEL’S EXPLOITATION IN THE WOMEN’S 5,000M

Canada completed a double in the men’s 1,500 meters and Charles Philibert-Thiboutot won his second medal at Santiago 2023. In the women’s 5,000 meters, Joselyn Danie made history by winning Venezuela’s first gold medal in the event.

In the men’s 1,500 meters at the Pan American Games, Canadian athletes demonstrated an exceptional level of competition. Second place went to compatriot Robert Joseph Heppenstall, who won his first Pan American medal by crossing the finish line in 3:39.76. The bronze medal went to the American Casey Comber (3:39.76).

“I feel very good, I am happy with the gold medal and the silver medal in the 5000m. I really wanted to win today so I’m incredibly happy. “I’m a little tired but we can say that we took two medals for Canada,” said Charles Philibert-Thiboutot.

In the women’s 5,000 meters, Venezuela celebrated its first gold medal in athletics at Santiago 2023 and the first in the discipline in the history of the Pan American Games thanks to the exceptional performance of Joselyn Daniely Brea, who crossed the line arriving with an impressive time. 16:04.12. The silver medal went to American Taylor Werner who recorded a time of 16:06.48, closely followed by Canadian Julie-anne Staehli who won the bronze medal with a time of 16:06, 75.

“Very happy with this first place, I worked hard to win gold. I am very happy to share it with my family who is here. It means a lot and I am very proud to give this medal to my country,” said Joselyn Daniely Brea.
