CANADA WINS ITS FIRST WOMEN’S BEACH VOLLEYBALL MATCH
At 10:30 a.m. at the Peñalolén Park Beach Volleyball Center, the first match of the day in this discipline at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games began. The Canadian team won the first match.
The duo, composed of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, faced the young Uruguayan team composed of Sol Acuña and María Isabel Bianchi on court 2 in a match valid for group D.
The Canadian experience was noticeable during the match and they beat the young Uruguayan representatives of only 22 years old by 21-11 and 21-6. The low temperature was not a hindrance for the public who came to watch the first match of one of the best women’s beach volleyball teams in the world. The fifth place they occupy in the world rankings (FIVB) positions the Olympic duo among the candidates for the gold medal in the respective competition in Santiago 2023.
It should be noted that the Canadian duo, who are part of the Panam Sports Athletes’ Commission, were responsible for carrying the Canadian flag during the opening ceremony of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games held at the National Stadium. Although, for Melissa Humana-Paredes it was a special day, since her heart is divided between Chile and Canada, since her family is Chilean, she represents Canadians and has developed her life on the North American continent.

The day of Sunday 21 will be opened again by the Canadians, where at 10:30 a.m. they will face Julibeth Payano and Bethania Almanzar, representatives of the Dominican Republic, in their second match of group D. The latter team, in their first meeting, won was beaten by Paraguay with a score of 22-20 and 21-16.
