Pablo Carreño extends his dream in Montreal

Spanish tennis player Pablo Carreño reached the semi-finals of the Montreal tournament (Canada), the sixth Masters 1000 of the season, after beating Britain’s Jack Draper this morning (7-6(4), 6-1), and look for Daniel Evans to reach his first final of a competition in this category.

In one of the best weeks of his career, the Asturian continues with a firm stage in the Canadian tournament, where he continues without giving up a single set -8-0 record-. After leaving behind Matteo Berrettini, Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner, the world number 23 imposed his hierarchy this time against the Englishman in a very physical meeting with very long exchanges.

In fact, the duel started with a game with up to 35 strokes, and he had to wait until the seventh game to break his opponent’s serve. However, Draper managed to tie the contest by becoming, in the tenth game, the first tennis player able to break his serve in the tournament, after a double fault.

The tie forced the tie-break dispute, in which Carreño was able to recover after being down 1-3 to assert his speed and physicality and break the 20-year-old tennis player. Already in the second round, that of Gijón started 3-0 and broke again in the sixth game to confirm their victory in one hour and 53 minutes.

With this result, Carreño will rise to at least 17th in the ATP rankings. This morning, he will seek the pass for his first Masters 1000 final against his British compatriot Daniel Evans, who came from behind in the quarter-finals against the American Tommy Paul (1-6, 6-3, 6 -4). “Carreño is a great player, a very experienced professional. He is very underrated, but he is a very tough opponent,” warned Evans, world number 39.
