Norma Morales: The fastest Sonora in the Toronto Marathon, Canada – El Sol de Hermosillo

Sonora runner Norma Morales left the state’s name at the top by finishing as the best Mexican in the “Toronto Waterfront Marathon 2022”where more than 24,000 athletes participated on Canadian soil.

On a course by Lake Ontario, the woman from Sonora clocked a new personal best of 2:52:07, in addition to being number 1 in her category and third in the ABS after the elite.

With this time, Morales was also the best of everything Mexican delegation who competed in Toronto, followed by Evelia Sánchez (3:02:51) and Claudia Escalera (3:04:48).

It should be noted that it is not the first time that the woman from Sonora finishes as the best Mexican in a world-class marathon, since she achieved it in the Marathon of New York and in the Chicagoin addition to being the first runner in our country to cross the finish line of the legendary Boston Marathon.

The absolute winners in the elite of the women’s category were the Kenyans Antonia Kumbi and Ruth Chebitok, who went 1-2 with times of 2:23:20 and 2:23:58 respectively, completing the podium with Ethiopia’s Geleta Burka (2:24:31).

On the men’s side, the best were Yihunilign Adane from Ethiopia (2:07:18), followed by Kenyans Kiprono Kipkemoi (2:08:24) and Felix Kandie (2:08:44) second and third respectively. .

For their part, those also from Sonora, Krystele Urrutia achieved a time of 3:22:09 in the Filípides distance, while Renné Hernández de Peregrinos, recorded 17.49 in the 5 kilometers, second place in his category.
