The Canadian airline Air Canada has announced that it will operate a new air link between Cuba and Japan from next October, with a stopover at Toronto airport, local sources said.
The planned date for the start of operations is October 28, but flights can already be booked on the official Air Canada website. The routes from Tokyo to Toronto will have a daily frequency from Haneda Airport and four weekly frequencies from Narita Airport.
Thus, the Tokyo-Toronto-Havana route will have a daily flight, except Saturdays. The Cuban regime must give a boost to its tourism, in decline due to the pandemic, in order to reactivate its economy at half mast. To do this, they have a strategic partner like the Canadians.
The local report adds that the meeting in which this information was offered took place in Tokyo, and the directors of the travel agency “Travel Bodeguita” took part in it, which has been working from this country for decades for the ” destination Cuba”. Currently, there is a very slight recovery in the tourism sector on the island, although the Castro regime continues to invest in hotels that are not filled.
According to official statistics, the arrivals of international travelers to Cuba between January and May of this year increased by 640% compared to the previous year, in the midst of the pandemic. But the number of tourists in those months was just over 500,000. In addition, the figures include business travelers and family visits by Cubans abroad.
Despite these indicators, the Cuban regime expects to receive some 2.5 million tourists this year, which it estimates would mean an injection of millions of dollars for its extremely poor economy.
This is how Air Canada flies to Cuba in July, according to ECASA. Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport (Varadero): Fridays to Montreal; Sunday to Montreal and Toronto. Abel Santamaría International Airport (Santa Clara): Wednesdays to Toronto. Jardines del Rey International Airport (Cayo Coco): Thursday and Sunday to Montreal and Toronto.
