Monterrey makes history: Air Canada’s first flight to Toronto

Air Canada, in conjunction with the Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo León and the Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA), officially introduced the new Monterrey-Toronto route, becoming the only Canadian airline to offer direct, non-stop flights between both destinations.

Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo León, expressed his satisfaction for this relevant fact for the relations between the two nations. “Today we are making history by announcing the start of operations of Air Canada, which will connect Nuevo León directly to Toronto for the first time, helping to strengthen trade and tourism ties between Mexico and Canada, reaffirming that Nuevo León is in the eyes of the international community. “, he commented.

In attendance were Sandra Shaddick, Consul General of Canada in Monterrey; Virgilio Russi, Air Canada’s vice-president of international sales; Enrique Navarro, Director of Operations and Airports, OMA; Luis Noriega, Sales Director of Air Canada Latin America and Álvaro Leite, Commercial Director of OMA Aeropuertos.

The route will be available throughout the year, with flights four times a week on a modern Airbus A220 aircraft. It has been reported that Air Canada customers will be able to stay in Toronto or connect on the same day with 28 destinations in Canada or continue their journey to one of 55 international routes, thus having a total of 83 options, to decide on the most practical, from according to your travel plans.

For his part, the airline’s Vice President of International Sales, Virgilio Russi, said: “For Air Canada, being the only airline to offer direct flights to Canada, to initiate, maintain and strengthen connectivity between Monterrey and Toronto, thanks to this new road, reinforces the existing link between one of the most important industrial and commercial cities of Mexico and one of the main economic and cultural centers of Canada”.

“The opening of this route will generate opportunities in attractive markets and satisfy the growing demand for flights that the city needs,” said Ricardo Dueñas, general manager of OMA. The first inbound flight from Toronto will be on October 29, 2023, while the first outbound flight from Monterrey to Toronto will be on October 30.
