The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), through the General Directorate of Mining Formalization (DGFM), presented the progress in the development of the National Multisectoral Policy for Small-Scale Mining and Artisanal Mining ; as well as the draft law on small-scale mining and artisanal mining in the forum “Technical-environmental feasibility of mining activity in Madre de Dios”.
The Director General of the DGFM, Alberto Rojas Cortegana, indicated that the latest deliverable of the National Multisectoral Policy for Small-Scale Mining and Artisanal Mining has been sent to the National Center for Strategic Planning (Ceplan) for validation.
“The aforementioned policy, which will have a 10-year implementation horizon, was prepared after a series of interactions with mining associations from all over Peru, specialists, international cooperation and other actors involved in the artisanal and small-scale mining activity. Scale (MAPE)”, indicated the head of the DGFM.
Likewise, he stressed the importance of continuing to work jointly between the different actors to achieve the drafting of the draft law on small-scale mining and artisanal mining, in compliance with the provisions of Law 31388, specifying that it is an opportunity after 20 years.
“A law will be drafted in accordance with the reality of small-scale mining activity, promoting that it is responsible and sustainable with the environment, the state and society,” said Alberto Rojas.
The forum brought together the participation of national and foreign specialists from countries such as Bolivia, Colombia and Canada; as well as the different actors of international cooperation, in addition to the participation of miners from different bases in Madre de Dios.
The aforementioned event was organized by the Mining Federation of Madre de Dios (Fedemin) and the office of the Deputy of the Republic Eduardo Salhuana Cavides.
