Thanks to a strong performance from pitcher Jorge Lizárraga, Mexico’s players crushed Team Canada 10-1 yesterday in the first playoff game and stayed alive in the 2023 Williamsport Little League World Series.

Thanks to this triumph, the ninth tricolor, represented this time by a team from the Municipal League of Tijuana, managed to find the way to continue progressing in the competition, after starting with a 6-1 defeat against Japan.

During yesterday’s game, played at Volunteer Stadium, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the North Regina Canadian League took the lead (1-0) in the first inning with two straight hits; However, the French players were not discouraged and reacted in time with Lizárraga’s single to obtain the draw (1-1) in the third chapter.

The fourth inning was decisive for the Mexicans, as they scored eight runs on three hits to put the score 9-1 in their favor, all but burying the hopes of the Canadians, unable to recover for the rest of the game.

In the fifth episode, the Tijuana team, led by Fidel López, mounted a powerful offensive to add an extra point and seal the 10-1 final victory for the ninth Mexican.

Lizárraga distinguished himself with excellent work on the mound, managing to eliminate ten opponents on strikes in four sleeves to contain the Canadian offense until the fifth inning, when he was replaced by Jorge Villa.

A few moments before yesterday’s duel, the young tricolors received a visit from Mexican baseball player Joey Meneses, player for the Washington Nationals, who surprised them with gifts and gave them some advice.

The next meeting of Mexican baseball players will take place tomorrow.

His rival will be the loser of today’s match between Curaçao (Caribbean Region) and Venezuela (Latin America Region).

In another result yesterday, Panama beat Cuba 3-2.
