Bogotá DC, August 22, 2022 (IDRD).- In its sporting commitments over the weekend, the Bogotá team was victorious in squash, thanks to Laura Tovar, and obtained good results in swimming – diving and open water –, PC football in the Paralympic sector and sport shooting.

Laura Viviana Tovar, the current number one racquet in the country, has participated in two satellite tournaments in Canada. In the first of these, the JK Windsor Open 2022 squash, she took first place after beating Canadian Niki Shemirani in the final, 3-1 (11-9, 11-13, 11-8 and 11-3 ), while in the second she was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Japanese Erisa Sano. With these results, once September begins, Laura will feature in the Top-100 of the PSA (Professional Squash Association) rankings for the first time, as she continues her preparation for the South American Games.

Other results

At the local level, the Bogotá team won one gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the National Diving Open Interleague held in Medellín, a qualification for the National Games. Gold went to Catalina Muñoz and Daniela Archila in the women’s synchronized 10m; silver went to Gabriela Rusinque and Catalina Muñoz in women’s synchronized 3m, and bronzes to Catalina Muñoz and Daniel Chacón (mixed synchronized platform), Santiago Santodomingo and Daniel Chacón (men’s synchronized 3m) and Christian Estupiñán and Daniel Martínez ( synchronized 10m men).

Angie Lorena Gómez of Bogotá finished third and won the bronze medal in the 10km open water race at the national Central American Sea and Beach Games held in San Andrés. Caldenses Mariana Libreros and Natalia Sánchez won the gold and silver medals respectively.

The Bogotá team won third place and the bronze medal at the I National PC Soccer Championship, qualifying for the VI Paranational Games 2023, which took place in Medellín, beating Norte de Santander 5-1. The champion was Valle, while the second place was occupied by Boyacá. Two players from Bogotá are part of the junior and senior Colombian pre-selection for the upcoming events.

Bogotá players María Camila Reyes and Valentina González were part of the Colombian national team which, after a strong performance, reached the quarterfinals (top eight) of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship which is played in Costa Rica. .

At the National Children’s Rifles and Pistols Championship held in Nilo, Cundinamarca was champion, while Bogotá came second, with three gold, one silver and one bronze. The gold medals were won by Federico Cano (individual air pistol), Laura Olano (individual air rifle) – both in the junior category – and Angelly Bayona in individual air pistol in children.

Finally, in Itagüí (Antioquia), the National Men’s and Women’s U-17 Interleague Basketball Championship was played. The women secured third place after beating Caquetá, while Antioquia and Santander took first and second place. The men, for their part, took sixth place in the tournament, in which Valle was crowned champion.
