‘Mister Titanic’, one of the ship’s tallest eminences, aboard the Titan
Paul-Henry Nargeolet, sA French septuagenarian who is one of the five missing of the tourist exploration submarine Titan, is one of the best-known scholars for being one of the best-informed people in the world on the sinking of the legendary ocean liner “Titanic” in 1912.
This French Navy submariner he quit his job specializing in mine deactivations to pilot a small submarine called “Nautile”, with which he discovered in 1987 the bow of the most famous ship in the world at almost 4,000 meters deep.
These discoveries have contributed to reconstruct this tragic accident attributed to a collision with an iceberg. The exhibition “43 objects from the Titanic that tell us the mythical story of the ocean liner”, in Cherbourg, draws largely from the collection found by “PH Nargeolet” (his explorer name).
Convinced by his first-hand experience, the Frenchman, author of the book ‘The depths of the Titanic’ (HarperCollins), also came to provide a version different from the official version on the Titanic incident.
The ship would have sunk in two parts, and not in a single block, due to an explosionwhich would explain why the objects turned out to be so scattered on the ocean floor.
The daughter of this Frenchman nicknamed “Monsieur Titanic” has confirmed that her father was part of the expedition whose purpose was precisely to approach the remains of the Titanic again.
