Australian Nick Kyrgios qualified for the Montreal Open on Tuesday, beating Argentina’s Sebastián Báez 6-4 in identical quarters, settling for a second-round duel against first-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev .
Kyrgios just won the Washington Open last week. He ended a title drought that had plagued him for three years there, to achieve seven singles trophies during his career on the ATP Tour.
Medvedev, the defending tournament champion who qualified directly for the second round, will face Kyrgios on Wednesday.

Australian Alex de Minaur beat local Denis Shapovalov 7-6, 7-6(4) in a first round match which was postponed the day before due to rain.
The two players were tied 3-3 in Monday night’s second set tie-break when the interruption occurred. Once back on center court at the IGA Stadium, Shapovalov only managed to earn one of the five points.
