Kei Nishikori keeps postponing his comeback

Kei Nishikori won’t be back on the track anytime soon, as he decided to return invitations he had to the Calgary and Drummondville Challengers in the first two weeks of November. The Japanese will again have to look for medical alternatives to feel better and plan a return to competition.

In recent days, Kei Nishikori has been making headlines in the tennis world, and not especially for his performance on the courts, but for finding it increasingly difficult to return to activity. The Japanese had already stayed unclassified ATP this week, shortly after his supposed return to the Canadian Challenger events. However, in the last hours, both from the tournament organization and from Kei himself, they confirmed a new change of plans.

Nishikori will not be able to be in Calgary or Drummondville

More specifically, the vice-president of the Drummondville Challenger, Alain Caillé, shared the news of the withdrawal of the Japanese. “Hours Previously, Kei Nishikori’s agent, IMG’s Olivier van Lindonk, informed us that he had suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw from the two Challenger tournaments presented in Canada. Although we are very disappointed and would like to have Kei among our seeds, we understand that he is trying to make a comeback after a serious and complicated surgery. It is in his best interest to follow his doctor’s recommendations at this time. We hope to see you again soon on the ATP Tour. Unfortunately, this is all part of the requirements of high performance sport, but that will not prevent us from presenting a high caliber tournament, from November 13 to 20.“.

For his part, Nishikori himself sent his message to Canadians, as well as his fans in general. “I was really looking forward to participating in the next Canadian events, but I should follow my doctor’s advice. I have to withdraw and resort to other treatments. I hope to return in 2024 and hope to play in Canada again in the future.“.
