The Government of Canada has announced that the pilot program to lift the limit on the hours international students can work off-campus each week is now underway.
Federal Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser said the pilot program will last until December 31, 2023 and will allow students work full time per week.
The new measure aims to address labor shortages in Canada.
Previously, international students authorized to work off-campus, under their study permit, were limited to a maximum of 20 hours of paid work outside of their studies for each week of classes and could work full-time during periods planned rest. .
The program seeks to benefit 500,000 students to Canada and provide more workers to Canadian companies that have vacancies.

Vacancies increase and unemployment decreases
Job postings hit a record high in the first quarter of 2022, according to Statistics Canada.
The increase in vacancies, combined with the reduction in the availability of the unemployed, is causing recruitment problems for many companies.
In addition, there has been an increase in retirements among Canadians aged 55 and over, making it harder for younger workers to replace them.
