HOLGUÍN.- The Frank País International Airport, in Holguín, resumed normal operations today after a temporary closure caused by a plane from the Canadian airline Sunwing that left the runway before starting its take-off maneuver.

Miguel Andrés Peña Peña, general manager of the aerodrome, confirmed to ACN that the security incident occurred at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, when the Boeing 737-800 MAX, which was monitoring flight SWG645 to Montreal, during the turning maneuver to the take-off position, it exceeded the established limits and caused the collapse of the main landing gear and the consequent immobilization of the aircraft.

The event led to the activation of the action plans established for these eventualities and no damage is to be deplored to the 180 passengers on board, nor on a preliminary basis to the plane, which is on the ramp of the Holguin airport until the investigation process by the competent authorities is completed. , he explained.

Peña Peña clarified that at the time of the accident, the airfield had a recently paved runway and a well-functioning beacon light system and all weather conditions were in place for safe operations. why a commission will be created to investigate the causes of this eventuality.

For security reasons, Frank País International Airport has diverted the three scheduled operations of Swift Air SWQ281, Sunwing Airline SWG641 and Viva Aerobus VIV417 to alternative terminals, he said.
