At a time when the country is facing problems with power cuts due to the energy crisis, President Guillermo Lasso will travel to the United States to fulfill an official agenda, between November 1 and 3.
The President will travel to Washington, where he will participate in the Responsible Investment Forum of the Alliance of the Americas – IDB and the first Leaders’ Summit of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity of the Americas (APEP). This is indicated in Executive Decree 898, signed by the Head of State on Tuesday, October 31.
The delegation that will accompany the president will be composed of Sebastián Correa, Secretary General of Public Administration; Gustavo Manrique, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility; and Lieutenant Colonel Fernando Conde, head of security for the President of the Republic.
Lasso will travel on the morning of Wednesday, November 1 from Mariscal Sucre International Airport, Quito. He is expected to make statements to the press at 10:15 a.m., before his departure, according to information shared by the General Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency (Segcom).
The Investment Forum is an event organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in association with the United States Government. It will be held on Thursday, November 2 and will aim to “strengthen the economies of our region and build a more competitive and inclusive hemisphere, by increasing the resilience of supply chains, promoting innovation in the public and private sectors , and fight the climate crisis,” indicates a press release from the IDB.
According to the forum’s programming, Guillermo Lasso will speak, like other heads of state from the continent.
On Friday, November 3, the Alliance for Economic Prosperity of the Americas Leaders’ Summit will take place at the White House. United States President Joe Biden will “receive leaders of the Western Hemisphere.” The meeting will reaffirm the commitment to “work together with our partners to deepen economic integration in our hemisphere, promote more inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and address the underlying economic factors that lead to irregular migration in the “hemisphere,” declared the American president.
APEP brings together the United States, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Canada and Barbados.
The last official trips made by the Ecuadorian president abroad took place on October 28 in Bogotá (Colombia), where he met his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, seeking support to overcome the energy crisis.
A few days earlier, on October 25 and 26, he traveled to Peru to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Brasilia Peace Agreement. (YO)
