Canadian gold producer Equinox Gold has launched the Mineração Santa Luz processing plant, a US$103 million project located in the Brazilian state of Bahia.
Commercial operations will start at the end of July and the production target for this year is 70,000-90,000 oz, while the plant’s total capacity is 100,000 oz/year, according to a press release.
It is the first plant in Brazil to use resin for gold leaching, which makes the process more environmentally friendly and improves performance. Construction took nine months.
“We believe that Mineração Santa Luz will be a turning point in engineering and technology to optimize the gold recovery process using resin,” said Vice President of Institutional Relations and Licensing César Torresini. , in the press release.
Equinox now has four units in operation in Brazil and plans to reach production of 1 Moz per year worldwide. Last year’s production was 602,100 oz.
