The international collective Committee for the Freedom of Milagro Sala demonstrated this Monday in the city of Toronto (Canada) to demand from the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales, the release of the social leader.
The provincial president is in this city, where he has been participating since Monday in the PDAC International Fair, the most important mining and mineral exploration convention in the world.
Activists staged a protest in the streets of Toronto in “repudiation” of Morales’ presence, saying he “keeps opposition leaders in custody”, in relation to Tupac leader Amaru Neighborhood Organization.
“Governor Morales comes to present the economic advantages of the province of Jujuy, at the same time as he keeps the leaders of the opposition, in particular Milagro Sala, in detention and continues the continuation of the demonstration and the persecution of anyone who opposes its policy,” the committee members said in a statement.
They pointed out that “since his inauguration as governor, Mr. Morales has manipulated and used the judiciary to exercise nepotism unusual in the province.”

The demonstrators declared that “the economic development of the province of Jujuy is not only meritorious but also necessary”, but they warned that “this growth must benefit everyone and not just the few”.
“For this to happen, Governor Morales must allow the expression of all voices and guarantee the freedom of political action and the social participation of social movements, as well as the release of Milagro Sala and the other people detained in Jujuy” , they concluded.
