Former employees of Mexican Aviationan airline declared bankrupt in 2014, were ousted early this Friday by elements of the Navy Secretariat.
The Association of Retired, Workers and Former Workers of Mexicana de Aviación reported that elements of the Navy arrived at the airport with orders to deport them.
“The government gave us a slap in the face because it does not solve this injustice and now it has left 70 families without means of subsistence, who supported themselves with the little that came from the cafeteria that we set up and d ‘other services,’ said the president of the Pensioners’ Association, Fausto Guerrero, according to the newspaper Reform.
In 2013 the workers took over the counter and in 2015 they opened a cafeteria to support themselves in the legal process.
According to the newspaper, dozens of Marine with riot gear, as well as capital police and AICM employees continue to remove filing cabinets, houses, tables and other equipment at Gate 3, which is cordoned off.
“Enrique Peña Nieto did not solve it, but at least he tolerated that we could keep each other because there we were taking turns to obtain resources. Today the federal government does not tolerate but does not solve either more,” said Fausto Guerrero.
In September 2010, a federal judge declared Mexicana de Aviación in business competition.
In 2020, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador raised the possibility of creating a new airline which is operated by the former employees of the former Mexican Aviation.
“We are helping so that workers can have options, like having an airline, I asked the secretary of communications, the engineer Jimenez Espriua cooperative is not excluded, whether they have permits, we give the concessions,” he said at the time.
