Environmental project will benefit 11,000 schoolchildren in San Juan de Miraflores | information

The Government of Canada and Action for Children are promoting an environmental training initiative to recover 800 square meters of green space in 8 schools in San Juan de Miraflores, which will benefit 11,673 schoolchildren, involving teachers, principals and mothers and fathers of family.

The project, which also aims to promote the participation of school municipalities in daily environmental protection practices, is of particular importance in the context of a pandemic “because the green spaces of schools have become wastelands”, explained Acción por los Kids.

With the name “Adolescents recover green spaces in the schools of San Juan de Miraflores and help take care of the environment to face climate change”, the environmental project is funded by the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI ) and will be developed in the next 8 months.

I have been working since school

“Climate change threatens to have short and medium term effects; we see that disaster situations, climate-sensitive diseases and other health issues are affecting the lives of our children and adolescents,” observed Action for Children Director Lourdes Febres.

“That is why it is necessary to work from schools to chart the way towards respecting, protecting and fulfilling the rights of children and adolescents in relation to environmental damage”, he added.

The work that Action for Children will carry out in schools is thanks to the contribution of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), which has supported actions for the protection and defense of the rights of Peruvian children and adolescents for 50 years. .

Reduce impacts

The representative of the Canadian Embassy, Jean-Denis Dufour, stressed the importance of helping children and adolescents to live and grow in a healthy environment.

“This is why we are committed to initiatives that contribute to reducing the impacts of climate change, and to achieving the implementation of prevention and adaptation measures from an early age”, he underlined.
