Electoral reform must be discussed in 2024 campaigns: AMLO

After the opposition will not approve its electoral reform and will only obtain changes to some laws, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has indicated that with the approval of his plan B, it has achieved savings of 3,500 million pesos, but if the initial initiative had been approved, it would have been 15 billion; However, he didn’t lift a finger on the line and said the matter should be discussed in 2024.

“In general, a saving of about 3 billion 500 million pesos was achieved, something is something, with the reform of the Constitution the savings would have reached up to 15 billion. We also managed to prevent the purchase of the vote from being facilitated,” he explained.

During his morning conference from the National Palace, the President pointed out that vote buying was not easy because his conservative opponents have a lot of money and all these political or civil society organizations are financed by the oligarchy.

“The control was carried out, including the so-called scholarships, which are given before the elections, cash, cards, and it was also possible to facilitate the vote, which was very important, for our compatriots abroad “, did he declare.

In this sense, López Obrador said that these groups do not want democracy, they do not want the people to be in control, because they seek to have all the economic and political power, that is, to be the owners from Mexico.

The President pointed out that the expenses of the National Electoral Institute (INE) were reduced because there were many duplicate offices and in general a saving of 3,500 million pesos was generated with the reform of the constitution, the savings would have reached 15 billion pesos.

However, he said that surely those in the Tory bloc will go to court to ask for the changes to be declared unconstitutional, so it will be the court ministers who will decide, so this is just getting started.

In this sense, the Federal Executive considered that this fight should not be abandoned and should be a topic of discussion in the 2024 electoral campaign to continue promoting democracy in Mexico.

And it is that, he added, this demand must be maintained so that it is the people who elect the councilors of the INE and not the parties, in addition to so much money not being spent on the elections, nor that there are so many deputies since Mexico is one of the countries in the world with the most legislators.
