The Ecozine international film and environment festival offers an interesting program for next week. The screenings, with free admission to be collected at the ticket office, will take place at the Golem Baiona cinemas, from Monday 17 to Thursday 20, at 7:30 p.m. This year’s edition opens and closes with the benefits and impacts of farming on the environment, but also offers the opportunity to travel to the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon, Corsica and even time travel to to the pacifist struggle of the 1980s in England. At the end of each screening, the public will be able to discuss with the directors of each work.
The program opens on Monday 17 with ‘Loop’, winner of the Goya for best animated short. This eight-minute Spanish short film without dialogue precedes the documentary ‘Cattle or Desert’, shot last year in Spain. This film is broadcast in its original version, in English, Portuguese and Spanish; tells how the fight to reverse climate change puts livestock in the spotlight. Good livestock management is presented as a real solution for the restoration of ecosystems and rural economies.
The first screening on Tuesday is the Canadian short film ‘Feeling the Apocalypse’, which is offered in English. The star of the day is ‘Pisar suavemente na terra’, from Brazil, shot in Portuguese and Spanish. The film describes how three indigenous leaders from the Amazon attempt to keep alive their way of being in the world. The three tell of the threats to their territories due to mining, monocultures, oil exploration, logging and the construction of hydroelectric plants.
On Wednesday, from Switzerland and in English, ‘The invention of less’ arrives. Also in English and from the UK, ‘Sew to Say’ tells the story of artist and banner maker Thalia, who in the 1980s joined a camp to oppose nuclear weapons, where she was the longest running feminist protest in British history.
The festival closes its sixth year in Pamplona with two French works: the short ‘Name of a plant!’ and “The part of the dream”. The film tells the story of a young goatherd, Leticia, who settles in the land of her ancestors in Corsica. Alone, tenacious, resistant and independent, she invents an unusual way to put down roots. Behind this endearing portrait hides the desire to change, perhaps not the world, but at least his daily life.
All information about the festival is available on the website educaciónambiental.pamplona.es. The creations are screened in their original version, with Spanish subtitles.
The youth section of the Festival, where short films for high school students are screened, took place from April 3 to 5 at Civivox Iturrama. Throughout this edition, more than 1,000 students from different educational centers in the city have participated.
