The 2022 Street Festival comes to Toronto from King Street and Peter Street to University Avenue. Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate cinema with a series of free events around the city, part of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The various Festival Street activities will take place from September 8 to 18. Times will change depending on each event, and here we share with you the ones you definitely can’t miss.
Free outdoor screenings
Don’t miss outdoor screenings at OLG Cinema Park in David Pecaut Square, where you can enjoy audience favorites like The Greatest Showman, 10 Things I Hate About You, West Side Story (2021), The Mummy, a screening from the 30th anniversary of A League of Their Own (1992), as well as School of Rock and Love & Basketball.
A different screening will be made daily throughout the duration of TIFF. The films will start around 10 p.m. but we advise you to arrive a little earlier to organize your picnic in order to make the most of these outdoor screenings.
Free music
For movie buffs who also love music, the Street Festival will present the Slaight Music Stage for the seventh consecutive year. Beginning September 8, beginning at 7 p.m., live music will flood the most anticipated film festival of the year at David Pecaut Square.
Don’t miss performances by Buffy Sainte-Marie, Kardinal Offishall, Wolf Saga, Lido Pimienta, Thompson Egbo-Egbo, The 99s, Toronto Dance Theatre, Honey Jam Special Performance: Celebrating Women, JESSIA, Elijah Woods, Jess and Tay, and Slaight Music artists Roslyn Witter and New Friends.
TIFF CINEMATHEQUE
The TIFF Cinematheque will present five classic films to the public this year. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy classic titles with visual restorations and 4K definition. All TIFF Cinematheque screenings will be free to all audiences.
The feature films that will be presented at the cinematheque this year are:
- Tales from the Gimli Hospital Redux – Canada
- Werckmeister Harmonies – Hungary, Italy, Germany, France
- Strictly Ballroom – Australia, UK
- I Killed Andy Warhol – UK, USA
- Abroad – India, France

To celebrate and pamper the public, the Street Festival will offer various activities in which all the public can participate. Access will be free, but remember that in events where some consumption of food or drink is made, it will be at your expense.
