Santo Domingo, August 25 – The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, today supervised the channeling and sanitation works of the Las 800 ravine, in the Los Ríos sector, in the National District.

Abinader said more than 12,000 residents will benefit from his cleanup, which will have less risk to their health and contamination, and improve their quality of life, the presidency’s website reported.

Last June, local media quoted residents who agreed that work was progressing slowly after work began in April by the Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Company.

The President recalled that when he arrived at the Government, there were only six kilometers of ravines intervened and that to date they have already completed 11 kilometers out of the 42 planned.

Meanwhile, the director of the Aqueducts Corporation, Felipe Suberví, indicated that as part of the actions, prefabricated crates are placed to line the ravines and sewage is channeled.

This week, hours before Tropical Storm Franklin passed through the national territory, Diario Libre published that in the neighborhood of Las 800, the inhabitants were ready to receive the rains, albeit with fear.

The aforementioned Society said that the work carried out so far ensures that at least the part of the confluence of the two ravines will not flood the houses as before.

On November 4, 2022, heavy rains that fell on the capital caused several people to lose their property and materials, and others even lost their lives.

On this occasion, Abinader went there and promised to clean the ravine.
