The tennis player Novak Djokovic will not be playing the National Bank of Canada Open this year, which is part of the ATP Tour Masters 1000, because of tirednessas reported this Sunday the organization of the tournament.
The 36-year-old Serb said in a statement that “after speaking with my team, we believe it is the right decision“.
“Really I hope to return to Canada and Toronto in the future to play in front of the big fans there,” added the tennis player.
Djokovic had planned to participate in the tournament, the most important tennis tournament in Canada and which takes place this year in Toronto on August 4 to 13with the Spaniards Carlos Alcarazwho defeated him on July 16 in the Wimbledon final in five sets.
The absence of Djokovic will allow the American Christopher Eubanks, the world number 31, go directly to the draw. Eubanks, 27, reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals after beating the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (5) and Britain’s Cameron Norrie (13).
Djokovic, 36 years old, won four times the Canadian Open, which alternates each year between the cities of Toronto and Montreal.
Last year the winner of the tournament was the Spaniard Pablo Carreno bust.
