Energía Aljaval halted development of the 99 MW Gómez Farías solar park, a US$115 million project planned for the Mexican state of Coahuila, due to regulatory uncertainty.
The first works progressed slowly, given the attitude of the authorities towards private renewable energy projects. Development could resume after a change of government in 2024, the company’s director of engineering, Gonzalo Gil, told BNamericas.
The Ministry of the Environment (Semarnat) approved the environmental impact statement in 2018. In 2021, the company was working on several social impact studies to present to regulatory authorities.
Energía Aljaval follows other promoters who have halted their projects until after the 2024 elections.
Last year, developers of more than a dozen projects reported similar issues to authorities.
