Deadly hit and run in Canada: two pedestrians were killed and nine injured

The authorities exclude that the incident is linked to terrorism.

Two men died on Monday when they were hit by a van while walking along a highway. The event occurred in the town of Amqui, in eastern Quebec, Canada.

Police reported nine other people were injured, some seriously.

The driver, aged 38 and resident of the town, surrendered to the police and was arrested.

Authorities said they do not currently have information on whether the multiple hit and run, which occurred at 3:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. GMT), was an accident or an intentional act. They rule out that the incident is related to terrorism or national security.

On February 8, two children were killed and six others injured when a municipal bus crashed into a daycare center in the city of Laval, near Montreal.

The Laval incident is being treated by authorities as intentional.

Canadian courts have ordered a mental assessment of bus driver Pierre Ny St-Amand, 51, to determine if he suffers from a form of transient mental disorder.

After crashing the bus into the nursery, St-Amand left the vehicle screaming and naked. Several individuals had to use force to restrain him until the police arrived.
