Toronto (Canada), August 10 (EFE).- The film “Dalíland”, about the Spanish artist Salvador Dalí, and the fifth season of the television series “The Handmaid’s Tale” will premiere during the International Film Festival of Toronto (TIFF), which this year runs from September 8-18.
The organization of the Canadian exhibition has celebrated that “Dalíland”, a portrait of the artist and his wife Gala in the last years of the painter’s life, is the film chosen to close the festival. It will be screened on Saturday, September 17.
The film is directed by Mary Harron and stars Ben Kingsley, Barbara Sukowa, Christopher Briney, Rupert Graves, Alexander Beyer and Andreja Pejic.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said he was pleased that the official closing of the Canadian exhibition, one of the most important in the world, is with “Dalíland”.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Harron, a Canadian who has brought her unique exploration of iconic eccentrics to the world stage. By portraying the tumultuous relationship between Salvador Dali and his partner, Gala, Harron continues to make cinema interesting,” Bailey said in a statement.
Harron is the writer and director of independent films such as “I Shot Andy Warhol” (1996), “American Psycho” (2000) or “The Notorious Bettie Page” (2005).
In addition to the world premiere of the fifth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale”, based on the book of the same title by writer Margaret Atwood, TIFF has scheduled the premiere of six other television series.
One of them is “LIDO TV”, by Canadian-based Afro-Colombian singer Lido Pimienta.
The series “Dear Mama” by Allen Hughes, “High School” by Clea DuVall and Laura Kittrell, and 1899 by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese will also premiere during the festival.
The Canadian festival had already announced in advance that the drama “The Swimmers”, by the Welsh director of Egyptian origin Sally El Hosaini and which tells the true story of two sisters who flee Syria, will be the film which will open its 47th edition. next September 8.
