Cuban judoka Maylín del Toro won a bronze medal in the 63 kilogram category of the Hungarian Grand SlamWhat It will end this Sunday in Budapest.
27 year old athlete from Santiago won the medal beating Briton Gemma Howellwho ended up disqualified.
Before getting there, Del Toro had beaten Dutch Geke van den Berg and local Brigitta Varga, only to fall in the quarter-finals to Brazilian Ketlyn Quadros, who dragged her into the playoffs where she beat the Canadian Catherine Beauachemin-Pinard.
The first prize in the category went to the Japanese Megumi Horikawa, who beat the Polish Angelika Szymanska in the decisive duel.
At the Saturday meeting, fellow Cubans Arnaes Odelín (-57 kg) and Magdiel Estrada (-73 kg) lost their respective clashes for bronze and they were located in the two fifth places.
Today, the main cards of the island team will come out on the tatami, Idalys Ortiz (+78kg) and Ivan Silva (-90 kg), in addition to Kaliema Antomarchi (-78 kg) and Andy Granda (+100 kg).
