Ciudadanos denounced the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, before the Central Electoral Commission (JEC) for allegedly breaking the electoral law by announcing from the Palau de la Generalitat his proposal for a clarity agreement.
The complaint, filed yesterday, Friday, April 14, asks the JEC to urge Aragonès not to take actions “which involve taking sides or favoring one of the political formations in the running in the current electoral process”, and to open the disciplinary file against the president for violation of the electoral rules.
The leader of the CS in Parliament, Carlos Carrizosa, announced the complaint this Saturday from Lleida (Barcelona), where the formation held a meeting of its regional committee.
On Tuesday, Aragonès announced at a press conference at the Generalitat his proposal for a clarity agreement, which follows the Canadian path with Quebec, to try to add internal support in Catalonia this year and, in early 2024, have a referendum proposal with the aim of reaching an agreement with the State.
For CS, the attitude of Aragonès is “fully reprehensible” because the electoral law requires to be “scrupulous” and to defend “the neutrality of the institutions”, and the president made this announcement “using the infrastructure of the Generalitat, the microphones of the Generalitat and the media of the Generalitat” to spread the message.
